Marketing as Ministry

You might be wondering. Why is Shameka_TheRealMcCoy talking about ministry stuff when this is a marketing business? Well I’m glad you asked! Reading definitions brings clarity to true meanings. With that being said…

Marketing:

  1. the act or process of selling or purchasing in a market. the process or technique of promoting, selling, and distributing a product or service.
  2. an aggregate (collection) of functions involved in moving goods from producer to consumer

Ministry:

  1. a person or thing through which something is accomplished. Such as: Agency, Instrumentality

Ministry & Marketing

Ministry work is “Who We Are” and Marketing is “What We Do.” Usually, when we hear the word ministry, we think of the pastoral staff standing behind the podium Sunday after Sunday. In addition to this traditional method of thinking, we all stand in the position of ministry. Ministry faces are represented in many aspects. It’s a mother & father taking care of their children. It’s the Marketing Consultant creating solutions. The real question is, “What is your Ministry?” The concept of Ministry, on the other hand, has expanded.

MMS’s intention is to connect I.M.C. Integrating Marketing Concepts (promoting, selling, and distributing etc.) into the core of our business. Our business is ministry. MMS is an agency who uses biblical principles to measure success with small business owners and entrepreneurs in the marketplace. IMC has expanded the traditional method of marketing by ensuring that all forms of communication and promotional tools are linked together. By incorporating these methods into MMS, we become more efficient and effective.

Marketing Mix: 4P’s expanded to the 7P’s

4P’s (Traditional):

  1. Product
  2. Promotion
  3. Price
  4. Place

7P’s (The expansion):

  1. People
  2. Process
  3. Physical Environment

The addition onto the 4P’s is essential when going into depth with your marketing plan. Customer satisfaction is important and evaluating each of these concepts helps you achieve that.

Ministry in the Workplace

Is your personal and professional life really separate? Do you act one way at work and another way at home? What if you decided to be yourself wherever you go? Are you not being yourself cause you think you won’t be accepted? My friend, you are in for a treat. Keep reading!

In the past, I worked a sales job that caused me to observe working in an atmosphere with majority men. It was like the boys locker room. Constantly, full of profanity, smelly socks, macho manly attitudes, and child-like behavior all the time. The excitement of bonding with their male colleagues would cause them to forget a lady was present. Have you ever heard the saying, “boys will be boys?” Well it has its places. At some point, the boy has to transition into a man. Be like Brother Paul, who said, “When I was a child I acted like a child, but as I became a man I put away childish behaviors.” By allowing himself to mature and develop his character, he learned what was appropriate.

Learn what’s appropriate when a lady is present. 👉🏽👂🏽Listen to my southern hospitality roots speaking up!

I can remember never cursing at work, although cursing feels good to our flesh. I’m a little embarrassed to admit, but sometimes I’m a Cursing (cursin’) Christian. If you are wondering, “Did she just say that?” My response, “Yes I did!”

While working at the sales company I mentioned earlier, I never cursed at work. I always thought it wasn’t professional. I’m not sure when it happened, but somewhere while working there I changed. I did not allow the atmosphere to change my core character, but I did integrate the work culture. What I’m trying to say is I began showing more of my personality. That’s what ministry is. I couldn’t let my entire guard down, that would be foolish. Although, I did open up. This shift brought about a change. It’s important that you learn this concept. My core character was not altered to become something I AM NOT. In order to build relationships you have to relate to people. When it comes to professional attire; your girl likes to coordinate. Although the work atmosphere was casual, it was important to me that I didn’t change my professional attire. I merged my “Personal Character” with what I believed to be my “Professional Character!” In essence, for professional and personal life to evolve they have to collide. This builds relationships.

Ministry is a lifestyle, not a destination. Ministry is a part of everyday life. In your business, try sharing how understanding lifestyle practices is a key concept to understanding your target audience. Then feel free to email us and share your experiences.
