Prayer Room

Psalms 119:105 – Thou word is a lamp unto my path and light unto my feet.

The Prayer Room is a secret place within our hearts. This room is physical and internal. As a child, I was raised Pentecostal. I remember this like it was yesterday. Towards the back of the church. Behind the baptism pool was two doors on each side. In bold letters were the words labeled “Prayer Room.” Walking behind the doors, I saw people laid at the altar. At the beginning, I was surprised by their abrupt cries and spontaneous worship.

The Prayer Room was frequently visited. Prayer peak hours was doing revival or special service. Saints would come early to hear from God. I knew the prayer room was sacred. Adults, children, and even babies were in the room. Being in the atmosphere, my eyes often witnessed the spirit of the living God fall in the room. My brothers and sisters in Christ prayed in their prayer language and honored God’s presence. Hallelujah! I knew prayer was important. Even tho I didn’t fully understand “why.”

Growing up I watched my father kneel in prayer. This took place each day. His prayers, like his home bible studies, were lengthy. We became idle after sitting a long time. My sister and I doodled under the table to pass time. Pencils and crayons guided our imagination. The top of the table was upholstered. Under neath our art remains. Kids will be kids! 🤭😇

 Ministry Moment:

Confession: I took prayer for granted. I would tell people “the least I can do is pray for you.” I attempted to show empathy. Assuring the other person the comfort that’s exchanged from prayer. Well, that’s what I thought I was doing. My tone of voice sound pitiful and pathetic. Actually, I spoke with no authority. I didn’t understand the power of prayer. I spoke what I heard other people say. I’ll admit, I didn’t understand what they meant.

The Power of Prayer

What is prayer and why is it important? Prayer is our legal petition spoken to God. It is an earnest request, a set of words, or an address. This is how prayer works. First, you must believe. According to Matthew 21: 21- 22, (21) Jesus informs us if you have faith and don’t doubt. You can speak to a mountain, cast it to the sea, and it will move. (22) All things asked in prayer, believe, and we shall receive.

It is important you know. Prayer is not a magic wand. It is a biblical principle. A powerful tool in our armor as Christians (Ephesians 6:17-18). A measurement tool, just like in business. Prayer is a tool. Use prayer as a weapon. Combine it with the “Word of God” (our sword). Next, watch the miracles happen. God steps in to fulfill his word, through us! That’s right! God uses people to fulfill His word on earth, 🌍. Knowing this changes my perspective. Now, praying with authority!  I believe I have what I say in prayer. Do you? We are all people of instant gratification. Without immediate results, we become discouraged. Continue Praying Anyways! I encourage you today, God’s people. Humble yourself. Seek God’s face. Pray. Turn from your wicked ways. He will forgive our sins and heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14).

For safety reasons, the coronavirus stopped large gatherings. Closing the church building doesn’t stop God’s Plan! We are the church! We are the temple. The presence of God dwells in our mortal bodies. This is what makes the “Prayer Room” internal. Take prayer with you everywhere you go.

To Be in the Room

Now, I know the saints and my parents were covering us in prayer. My parents are blessed. They understand the principle of prayer. Daddy is a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Mom is a Sunday School teacher and missionary. Both retired now. Raised in a sanctified house whole. I was protected by the power of prayer! 🔥🙏🏾 This doesn’t mean I was never mischievous. All kids are. This means their prayers protected my life from danger seen and unseen. My friend, thats good parenting!!! Don’t pray in vain repetition. Pray the Word of God!

Prayer for our children:

Deuteronomy 6:7 – I’m paraphrasing….Teaching our children God’s commandments. Teaching starts at home. Don’t make it complicated.  It’s a simple conversation in the morning and at night.

This is what my parents prayed over me. Now, I pray over my son and God-daughter. I hope you do the same for your children!

The Benediction (the conclusion)

Don’t be afraid to pray bold prayers! Let your request be known unto God (Philippians 4:6). Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit (Ephesians 6:17). I pray right now in the mighty name of Jesus!!! Hallelujah! That God pours out a Revival, Restoration, and Rejuvenation!  Prayer in our homes, careers, for business owners and entrepreneurs, for married couples and singles, for children, for teachers and preachers, for college students, for our elders, plus for friends and family. May His peace be upon you! Amen.

I love the way you write God’s truth and speak to me in an understanding language. I thank God for the power of prayer and our ability to approach his throne with graciousness and humility. How do we get our kids to believe in the power of prayer? Especially if they are not being raised in a spiritual atmosphere. Thank you

    1. Tarlease,

Yes ma’am, prayer is powerful with 24/7 access to the throne of God. Now that’s good! Kids to believe…. Train up a child in the way he should go: when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). The best way to teach children is by your example. Our kids are always paying attention to us. Check out the fruits of the spirit, Galatians 5:22.

      XOXO,
