Fight for Yourself

Matthew 11: 28-30

28. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. – Jesus

Heavyweight -vs- Lightweight

The Referee uses a stern voice, “I want a fair fight! You both need to know the rules! Now, Let the Games Begin!” The Announcer starts to speak. He immediately repeats The Referee. Ready or Not? Now, Let the Games Begin! Both boxers appear to be in position. Going into the fight. Heavy throws with his left. Light swings with his right. Each boxer studies the other. Again, Heavy throws a punch with his left. His opponent, Light, swings with the right. The Announcer whispers with excitement! This Fight is Tight! Is he in his Sight? or Is he leaning to the Right?

The Knockout

Light gives a swing with all his might. Protects his head with a duck to the right. The crowd yells, “Knock Him Out!” “Go for the Kill!” Feeding off the crowd, The Announcer was tempted to agree. He yells, Light, There is a Champion in You!” The crowd follows The Announcer’s lead. A guy shouts, “Too many blows from the right. He looks like he’s winning the fight!” His lady friend shrugged and responded, “Which one? I can’t tell it’s too much spinning!” Back in the ring. It seems like there is no hope. With his opponent holding on the ropes. Bright lights begin to flash. The Referee breaks the fight by ringing the bell. Round 1 is complete.

Pop Quiz:

Who are the characters? Heavyweight, Lightweight, The Referee, and The Crowd? Which one is the accuser versus the opponent? Who is fighting who?

Bonus question: Who is The Announcer?

Heavyweight is our natural man.

Lightweight is our spiritual man.

The Referee is God.

The Crowd is the company you keep.

The Fight for Yourself is a constant internal battle. Here, I use the boxing ring as an analogy, representing the game of life. Heavyweight and Lightweight are two different versions of ourselves. Both fighting against each other. God is The Referee meaning: he is individually in our corner’s. We are never ever alone with God in the ring! Hallelujah! Come through Team Jesus! The Referee has the final authority to administer the game. God gives us the power to freely make our own decisions.

 Surprise 🥳

The Announcer is yourself. You are The Announcer of your own life. This is the internal voice of your conscience. Be mindful of who crowds your space. The Crowd can influence your decisions. Choose them wisely. Don’t compare yourself to others. Be aware of the danger that can come from this! God is NOT the author of confusion!

Life is a battlefield. Some battles we feel victorious and others victimized. We become confused. Which one is the accuser versus the opponent? We point the finger (not the middle finger guys…..smh). Blaming the devil. We say things like, “The devil made me do it!” We give too much power to the devil. Focus on “The Real” enemy. Your girl is having an Apostle Paul #MinistryMoment… I want to do the right thing and my flesh is working against me. The flesh and the spirit are always battling each other.

Put on your whole armor of God.  That ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil! For our struggle is not against flesh and blood. Against principalities, powers, and rulers of the darkness of this world. Against the spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 6:11-12

 3 Fighting Stance Tips:

Fight Right: Don’t go below the belt and give in to your flesh. You will be tempted to play dirty. 🚫🙅🏽‍♀️ DON’T! God’s breath is in our DNA! Trust your instincts! Take authority back by force!

Fight in Prayer: Go in your secret closet, the “Prayer Room.” Create a prayer list, link scriptures, and pray the Word of God. Let your petitions be known unto God! Some prayers are private and some are corporate. What you do in private, God will reward you openly!

Fight on your Knees: Often the visual position of prayer is kneeling. Transition your thinking from position to posture in prayer. Posture is the state or condition at a given time. Truth is you can kneel without being on your knees. This means you can pray anywhere. Get in the right position to win!

Conclusion

Fight for yourself is directly linked to what motivates us. Motivation is linked to our goals. Hopefully, we’re all fighting to win. The question is win what? Are you focused more on earthly treasures versus heavenly ones? There is nothing wrong with having goals to advance your career, gain credentials, or other forms of success. Ultimately our goal is to know Christ. This requires discipline of our flesh by feeding our spirit more!

First, set aside time each day to pull back from The Crowd (the company we keep).

Second, Rearrange your crowded schedules.

Third, Make time for things of God (The Referee).

Fourth,  Announce to Heavyweight that Lightweight has a champion in him. That can win every fight.
